BrendanKing(01:18):Yes, for sure. And of course, our guest, Chekesha is here today. Thanks for joining us.
ChekeshaVan Putten(01:24):Oh, thanks for having me.
BrendanKing(01:25):Chekesha is like the all-around,just brilliant human being, entrepreneur, former performer, literally doeseverything in anything. She's currently the Vice President at the Junior Leaguewhich is also the PEE which is the President-Elect Elect, right?
ChekeshaVan Putten(01:45):Correct.
BrendanKing (01:45):So, you'll be the president twoyears from now. Is that correct?
ChekeshaVan Putten(01:48):Absolutely, next year.
BrendanKing(01:49):So, Vice President of JuniorLeague. Junior League is an amazing organization in town that does a lot forthe community, tons of charity. Tell me a little bit about Junior League.
ChekeshaVan Putten(02:00):Yeah. So, the Junior League ofLas Vegas is, like Brendan said, a nonprofit organization of women. Our missionis to promote volunteerism, develop the potential of women and improve ourcommunity through effective action of trained volunteers.
BrendanKing(02:15):Amazingly said.
JackPalermo(02:16):That was great.
BrendanKing(02:18):So, some of the organizationsthat you guys have worked with in the past, tell me some of the type of eventsyou guys have done. I know you've worked with Three Square which I'm a huge fanof, Shade Tree. Tell me a little bit about other things you guys do for thecommunity.
ChekeshaVan Putten(02:33):Yeah. Well, Jack should knowthis because I spend a lot of time giving back. But we have partnered withmany, many incredible organizations throughout the Las Vegas Valley. Brendanmentioned a few. We actually helped get them started in their inception. ShadeTree, Help of Southern Nevada. We do a lot of work with them. One of theirorganizations is the Shannon West Homeless Youth Center.
ChekeshaVan Putten(02:58):We do a lot of volunteer shiftswith them. We help them get started. We also helped start the DISCOVERYChildren's Museum.
BrendanKing(03:05):I didn't know that.
ChekeshaVan Putten(03:07):Super Summer Theater.
BrendanKing(03:08):When my kids were little, thatwas like ...
ChekeshaVan Putten(03:09):Super Summer Theater.
BrendanKing(03:10):Wow. So, we love Super SummerTheater. If anybody hasn't gone at Super Summer Theater, it's literally likethe ...
ChekeshaVan Putten(03:17):It's so fun.
BrendanKing(03:18):You go out to the middle of RedRock Canyon pretty much which is Spring Mountain Ranch I think is the correctname. And you watch a show outdoors, the sunsets, bats come flying out overfrom the mountains. You hear the donkeys in the desert. Amazing setting.Amazing, amazing setting and great, great shows. You come early. You havedinner.
ChekeshaVan Putten(03:37):It's fun.
BrendanKing(03:37):Drink a bottle of wine. It'sgreat. You guys helped create that?
ChekeshaVan Putten(03:39):We helped to create that.
BrendanKing(03:41):I did not know that.
ChekeshaVan Putten(03:41):We've been in the community forover 76 years.
BrendanKing(03:45):Holy cow, okay.
ChekeshaVan Putten(03:45):We celebrated our 75thanniversary last year. They even lit the strip red in our behalf. Thecommissioners lit the Las Vegas sign red to celebrate our 75th year. As you cansee, we were very, very proud of the work that we've done. We've donated over$2.5 million into the community, as well as put in over 2.5 million hours ofvolunteer time.
BrendanKing(04:11):That's amazing, 76 years.
ChekeshaVan Putten(04:13):Yeah, we've been around for a longtime. And the women, they're really ... It's feels so good to be a part of anorganization like this because we are doing so much in the community, not justto give back but also to develop the potential of women. So, I think what makesour organization so special is that we're training our leaders in ourorganization to become leaders in the community, outside of Junior League. So,many of our members sit on boards of many organizations.
BrendanKing(04:42):I know many women in the JuniorLeague that are just amazing women in general. So, even just in life, a lot ofour friends are all in Junior League.
ChekeshaVan Putten(04:52):Thank you.
BrendanKing(04:53):And they're all just ...
JackPalermo(04:54):My lovely wife.
BrendanKing(04:55):Yeah. And your sister as well.
JackPalermo(04:57):My sister, too. Yeah.
BrendanKing(04:58):Yeah. And I've seen some of thatyou guys have done. It's just amazing what you've done for the community forsure. And I'm sure it will be another 76 years of great things to come forsure.
ChekeshaVan Putten(05:07):Absolutely.
BrendanKing(05:08):One of the other things that I'dmentioned a little bit was Chekesha used to be in LA Lakers. Is that right?
ChekeshaVan Putten(05:16):I was. I was a Laker girl in oneof my past lives.
BrendanKing(05:21):Look at that. Where are you?
JackPalermo(05:21):Second row, second to the left.
BrendanKing(05:22):There you are.
ChekeshaVan Putten(05:23):Yeah, that's me. That's me. Ayounger version of me but that's me.
BrendanKing(05:29):What year did you do the Lakergirls?
ChekeshaVan Putten(05:31):Oh, gosh, I think that picture... Oh, gosh. It was in the late '90s. It was Kobe's first year with theLakers. And it was a blast. I mean, I professionally danced for many years andwas a Laker fan growing up. So, my dad's ...
BrendanKing(05:47):Was Magic still there?
ChekeshaVan Putten(05:49): He wasn't there that year, no.This was Kobe and Shaq. It was their first year playing together. And yeah, somy dad had season tickets growing up so I was always a huge Laker fan, not toupset Jack because he's the Bulls' fan over here from Chicago.
JackPalermo(06:05):No, no, it's fine.
BrendanKing(06:05):That was like during primeBulls' time.
JackPalermo(06:09):Yeah, Jordan time.
ChekeshaVan Putten(06:09):Yeah. Yeah. So, anyway, but itwas really like such an honor to be able to cheer on the court for the Lakersgrowing up watching the squad perform. I mean, I used to go to games when PaulaAbdul was performing and she was a cheerleader. And I said, "One day, Iwant to do that and grow up and be a Laker girl." And the dream came true. So, it was awesome. It was a lot of fun.
BrendanKing(06:32):That's cool, yeah. And that'slegendary. You have the Dallas Cowboys, LA Laker girls, not LA Laker girls, theLaker girls.
ChekeshaVan Putten(06:40):Yeah, the Laker girls.
BrendanKing(06:41):Well, that's amazing.
DavidGomez(06:41):Also, hey, tell us a little bitabout this gala that's coming up.
ChekeshaVan Putten(06:45):Oh, yeah. Going back to JuniorLeague, we have our big annual gala coming up. It is on March 26th. It's goingto be at the Resorts World. It's our Paint the Town Red Gala. It's our biggestgala of the year every year. You can purchase tickets. They're still on sale atPTTR22.GiveSmart.com.
BrendanKing(07:07):And we'll have the link forthat, of course. So, any of the information you've given us, we'll absolutelyhave the link for everybody to get tickets as well.
ChekeshaVan Putten(07:14):Yeah. And you can also go to ourwebsite, jllv.org to find out more about our organization, the work that we'redoing. Or if you're a woman out there and you're interested in joining, thenyou can sign up. We have open enrollment during the summer.
BrendanKing(07:28):Nice. That's amazing.
JackPalermo(07:30):And we'll be there at the gala.
ChekeshaVan Putten(07:31):We're going to be there.
BrendanKing(07:33):I wasn't invited.
ChekeshaVan Putten(07:37):You can come. You are invited,of course.
BrendanKing(07:37):Great, I need to get ticketsthen. So, the weather and for some reason, our air conditioning just kicked onin here.
JackPalermo(07:41):Yeah, perfect. It's perfect.
BrendanKing(07:42):We're freezing in here. Butoutside, the weather has gone insane. We literally have been teased from 36degrees back to 80 degrees to now back to like 35 degrees in the morning. So, Ithink it's like 50 miles an hour.
JackPalermo(07:57):Yes, 50 miles an hour gust, 20to 30 north winds today.
BrendanKing(08:00):Thank you, Weatherman Jack.
ChekeshaVan Putten(08:02):I don't people know that itactually gets cold in Las Vegas.
BrendanKing(08:04):No, they don't. You know what,it gets cold and we get that little taste of winter a little bit.
JackPalermo(08:07):A little bit.
BrendanKing(08:08):And then, it'll tease us like 75and then drop back down.
JackPalermo(08:12):This is the end of it. This isthe end of it I think.
BrendanKing(08:14):This is the end because look atthis.
JackPalermo(08:16):The weekend is going to begorgeous.
BrendanKing(08:16):The weekend's going to beamazing, 65 on Friday, 71 on Saturday and 75 on Sunday. And the wind is onlygoing to be six or seven miles an hour, not the 50 miles an hour.
JackPalermo(08:26):Not like when our doors areflying open in the office right now.
BrendanKing(08:29):It is today. With the doorflying open and our air conditioning turning on right now for some odd reason, but we're freezing in here.
JackPalermo(08:35):Very cold.
BrendanKing(08:35):And then spring forward thisweekend, don't forget, you're going to lose a little sleep. You're going tolose an hour. This is always the good time to remind you to check your smokealarms as well.
JackPalermo(08:46):I was just going to say that.Good for you.
BrendanKing(08:47):Thank you, Jack. So yes, springforward. Spring your clock forward one hour. 2:00 a.m. is the official time.
JackPalermo(08:54):2:00 a.m. So, 2:00 a.m. turns to3:00 ...
DavidGomez(08:56):You got to wake up in the middleof the night.
BrendanKing(08:58):You got to wake up at 2:00 anddo it or you can just do it before you're going to sleep.
JackPalermo(09:00):Do it before you go to sleep.
ChekeshaVan Putten(09:00):More sunshine for us.
JackPalermo(09:02):More sunshine. Yes, extra timefrom the day.
BrendanKing(09:05):Yes. When we leave the office,it won't be dark.
JackPalermo(09:06):Yes, it's beautiful.
BrendanKing(09:07):It will actually be sunny outwhich is nice.
JackPalermo(09:09):We like that.
BrendanKing(09:10):So, NBA, what's going on withthis, Jack?
JackPalermo(09:12):So, the rumor has it that theLeBron James lead team is possibly looking at an expansion team. It'll be acouple years but an expansion team here in Las Vegas which is very cool. So,obviously, he can't do it now because he's still playing but they're saying fora couple years down the road, he's looking to expand there. And basicallyexpand and why not Vegas? It's got everything else.
BrendanKing(09:35):Yeah. And we've literallydestroyed it on sports teams. Every team we've brought here has brought a tonof energy.
JackPalermo(09:42):Yeah for sure.
BrendanKing(09:42):All the visitors come to watchtheir team in Las Vegas. I know half the time when the Blackhawks play theKnights, three quarters of the stadium is people trying to get the heck out ofthe cold.
JackPalermo(09:53):Exactly. Coming here and watchyour team.
BrendanKing(09:55):Yeah. So, basketball, again awinter sport, why not come somewhere where the weather's nicer except fortoday?
JackPalermo(10:02):Except for today, exactly.
BrendanKing(10:03):So, we don't know what the dealis on this, on timing or anything like that, but the rumors are out just likeon major league baseball. On the NBA side, it sounds like ...
JackPalermo(10:11):They're coming and it's just amatter of time.
BrendanKing(10:13):It's going to be a lot like whenJordan left.
JackPalermo(10:13):It's like NBA, NLB. Yeah.
BrendanKing(10:16):When Jordan left NBA, thensuddenly he got into the managerial side and ownership side.
JackPalermo(10:20):Yeah, right. Ownership side. So,there we go.
BrendanKing(10:23):LeBron's quite the businessman.
JackPalermo(10:26):Yeah.
BrendanKing(10:26):What are we going to call theteam though?
JackPalermo(10:28):Not the LeBrons. Definitelycan't be The Goats being a Jordan fan. So, who knows? We'll see.
BrendanKing(10:36):Yeah, no comment on the LeBronGoat comment because I'm with you on that one.
JackPalermo(10:40):Okay, thank you.
BrendanKing(10:41):So, Raiders biggest loser on thesportsbooks after Rodgers and Wilson news. So, Aaron Rodgers.
JackPalermo(10:50):He resigned with Green Bay whichI ...
BrendanKing(10:53):He still looks homeless though.
JackPalermo(10:54):... I don't say hate but ...
BrendanKing(10:55):I use the richest homeless manin the country.
JackPalermo(10:58):... I dislike this man more thananybody else in sports just because me being obviously, everybody knows I'm aBears fan and we have to play him and he owns us as he said, he does. He beatsus all the time. And it's terrible.
BrendanKing(11:10):And your brother-in-law, itgives your brother-in-law some poking and bragging you guys here.
JackPalermo(11:12):Yeah. And he's going to poke mesome more because he's a Packers fan. And it's terrible but he'll be back.Fine, whatever. But in other news ...
BrendanKing(11:20):$200 million dollars though.
JackPalermo(11:21):Yes.
BrendanKing(11:22):$200 million dollars with howmuch guaranteed?
JackPalermo(11:24):$153 guaranteed.
BrendanKing(11:25):$153 guaranteed.
JackPalermo(11:26):So, the crazy thing is they'resaying it's going to be a game-changing contract. So, rumors have it that somegoing to be in cryptocurrencies.
BrendanKing(11:35):He's going to be paid in barrelsof oil.
JackPalermo(11:37):At this point, he should be paidin barrels of oil.
ChekeshaVan Putten(11:41):That would be a commodity areanow.
BrendanKing(11:42):I should have done yourcontract, Aaron.
JackPalermo(11:45):It's pretty smart.
BrendanKing(11:45):Forget the crypto, barrels ofrushing oil. Not Russian though, American oil.
JackPalermo(11:51):Other than that on this sad newsfor the Raiders is another future Hall of Fame quarterback is coming into theAFC West which is Russell Wilson, which kind of makes the Raiders ... I mean, Ido like the Raiders, I do like Derek Carr but it now makes Derek Carr probablythe worst quarterback in the division right now.
BrendanKing(12:11):Can you say that though as aRaiders secondary fan?
JackPalermo(12:13):I mean, it's pretty insane. Itis pretty insane though because you have PATRICK Mahomes who's great.
BrendanKing(12:20):Legendary, yeah.
JackPalermo(12:21):Now, you have Russell Wilson,Super Bowl winner who's a future Hall of Famer. And now, you have JustinHerbert who's amazing.
BrendanKing(12:28):And Aaron Rodgers.
JackPalermo(12:29):No, Aaron Rodgers is not intheir division.
BrendanKing(12:31):Oh, of course. Yeah.
JackPalermo(12:32):And then you have Derek Carrwho's good. He's really good, I mean, really good, is now the first quarterbackin the division.
BrendanKing(12:39):You don't need a quarterback infootball.
JackPalermo(12:42):Right. Just ask me and theChicago Bears haven't had in 50 years. But anyway ...
BrendanKing(12:47):We're going to run the heck outof the ball.
JackPalermo(12:48):Moving on. Anyway, so the oddshave went from the Raiders for the title 40-1 to 80-1 just from the news ofRodgers and Wilson.
BrendanKing(12:58):Yeah. And I think Seattleskyrocketed from 40-1 which was even with us to 200-1.
JackPalermo(13:05):You're right. They'd be nobody.
BrendanKing(13:06):Yeah, they literally ... That isinsanely ...
JackPalermo(13:09):The Bears' odds are better whichis crazy. Anyway, moving on.
BrendanKing(13:13):We don't have the numbers onthat. UNLV, you don't know how many times I had to say this before we startedthe show. UNLV Women's Basketball Team advances to the NCAA tournament for thefirst time in 20 years.
JackPalermo(13:29):Go, women.
ChekeshaVan Putten(13:29):Awesome.
BrendanKing(13:29):That's huge.
ChekeshaVan Putten(13:31):Go ladies.
BrendanKing(13:31):Yes, exactly.
ChekeshaVan Putten(13:33):Way to go.
BrendanKing(13:33):We're on a women charge rightnow.
JackPalermo(13:35):Yes.
ChekeshaVan Putten(13:35):It's Women History Month.
BrendanKing(13:36):Yeah, that's right.
JackPalermo(13:37):Women History Month.
BrendanKing(13:38):Thank you for the reminder. Andit was International Women's Day the other day.
JackPalermo(13:43):Tuesday.
ChekeshaVan Putten(13:45):Yeah, Tuesday 8th.
JackPalermo(13:46):And my wife got flowers from me,just saying.
BrendanKing(13:48):Nice job.
ChekeshaVan Putten(13:48):It was very sweet. Thank you.
BrendanKing(13:49):Sorry, honey. I'm so sorry. So,20 years, that's massive. Honestly, it's the big dance as we say.
JackPalermo(13:58):Yeah.
BrendanKing(13:59):So, congrats to the UNLV Women'sTeam for making the tournament for the first time in 20 years. It's awesome.
JackPalermo(14:05):And they'll find out Sunday, in SelectionSunday at 5:00 what seed they'll be and who they're going to play. It's goingto be cool.
BrendanKing(14:10):And on the Dad EntertainmentNews as we like to bring you. Cornerstone Performing Arts Academy will bepresenting Disney's Moana Jr. starring our very own Olivia Gomez, David Gomez'sdaughter on March 17 to the 19th, March 24th to the 26th with a sensoryfriendly performance as well on March 23rd at 6:30 p.m. That's just going to begreat.
JackPalermo(14:39):Awesome.
BrendanKing(14:40):Tell me a little bit about thesensory friendly performance. So, if you want to jump in here, David.
DavidGomez(14:45):I'll jump in here, yes. So, it'san opportunity for families to go to the theater. As we know and I know, we'refans both, theater is an incredible for the family to go. So, this gives theman opportunity to go to the theater with everyone understanding what thesituation is. If someone gets a little bit upset in the show, it doesn'tmatter. They were all having a good time.
DavidGomez(15:05):So, we have a lobby experiencewhere they meet the different characters from the show as they walk through thelobby. And then when you see the show, the lights are maybe at half, the musicisn't as loud and it's a great opportunity for families to go. So, I'm excitedabout it. We did it last year and this is the second year and it's going to beexciting. Five-dollar donation at the bar ...
JackPalermo(15:22):Great, it's a bar. I'm in.
BrendanKing(15:28):And they'll change the lightsand the audio a little bit for the kids in the audience and everything too, right?
DavidGomez(15:35):Yup.
BrendanKing(15:36):Nice.
ChekeshaVan Putten(15:36):The Moana is such a fun show. That's a good one. Great music.
BrendanKing(15:40):Is that the something ...
JackPalermo(15:41):Yes, it's The Rock with ...
BrendanKing(15:42):Yeah. The Rock's amazing inthere. Who would have thought when The Rock first came out that The Rock woulddo so many different types of movies?
JackPalermo(15:49):I mean, right. He was awrestler.
BrendanKing(15:50):Yeah. He's actually quitetalented.
JackPalermo(15:53):Totally.
BrendanKing(15:53):And he's proven it. I think mostof us probably didn't realize that when he first started but he's done a goodjob. He's got a good career.
ChekeshaVan Putten(15:59):Yeah, he's got comedy skills,too.
BrendanKing(16:01):Yeah, he's funny. He's good inMoana.
JackPalermo(16:03):He is funny.
BrendanKing(16:04):Not that I've seen it six timesor anything. So, Brad Paisley unplugged, but animated, in return to Vegas. So,Brad Paisley will be at the Encore Theater at the Wynn doing a similarperformance to Garth Brooks which I know David saw and said it was amazing.
DavidGomez(16:22):It's so great.
BrendanKing(16:23):It's pretty much just like asimple him and his guitar and playing acoustics.
JackPalermo(16:26):Storytelling, yeah.
BrendanKing(16:26):Storytelling.
JackPalermo(16:28):Storytelling, yeah. He'scountry.
BrendanKing(16:31):But honestly, one of the greatcountry guitar players. I know him and ...
JackPalermo(16:37):Keith Urban.
BrendanKing(16:38):... Keith Urban are insanelygood guitar players. But I love that format like just hanging out.
JackPalermo(16:43):Yeah. It's like it's veryintimate. You just kind of just jamming and telling stories and stuff. It'd begreat.
BrendanKing(16:48):Yeah. I think that will be anice night out for sure. And that will be at the Encore Theater at the Wynn. What's going on with the building growth over the decades here?
JackPalermo(16:58):Holy cow. These are some prettycool slides. So, Vegas back in 1905, we only had 300 people, 300 people.
BrendanKing(17:06):Three-hundred people, that's nofun.
JackPalermo(17:08):Right. So here, you got apicture of 1917 Fremont Street which is insane. 1920, a little bit more cleanedup. As we roll through the '30s ...
BrendanKing(17:16):Paving, they've got ...
ChekeshaVan Putten(17:16): They started opening somestores.
JackPalermo(17:18):They started opening somestores. Golden Nuggets was there. And then El Rancho, wasn't that our firstcasino ever? El Rancho Vegas. Check that out. Now, we're talking. It's 1940,the '50s. Look at The Mint. There we go, 1960s.
ChekeshaVan Putten(17:32):Frontier.
JackPalermo(17:32):It's Frontier, no longer there.Oh, they can buy some shoes there.
BrendanKing(17:35):The funny thing is I don'tremember the Vegas ever looking like that with like shops and stuff.
ChekeshaVan Putten(17:41):The startups.
JackPalermo(17:42):Look at the Stardust, theRiviera, they're all gone.
BrendanKing(17:43):Yeah, they're all gone. They'reall sitting in the ...
ChekeshaVan Putten(17:46):Yeah, that's definitely '80sVegas right there.
JackPalermo(17:48):Siegfried & Roy over the left, you can see their sign, still rocking 1980.
BrendanKing(17:52):Wow, they've been around thatlong. What's the graveyard?
ChekeshaVan Putten(17:54):Neon Museum.
BrendanKing(17:54):The Neon Museum, yes.
JackPalermo(17:57):All their signs are sitting inthere right now.
BrendanKing(17:58):That's right. They're sitting, yeah. So, very cool. Here's the big thing is this is construction growth overthe years as well. If you notice, the high point is around 2000 to 2009. Thisactually kind of further explains why we're in a bit of an inventory crunch. When the end of the 2000s collapsed, a lot of construction and builders neverreally ramped it back up to the levels that they had it before. So, we're in abig shortage. We were before the pandemic.
BrendanKing(18:28):Now, everybody-and-their-motherwants to move to Las Vegas.
JackPalermo(18:31):Yes.
BrendanKing(18:32):So, what was already a shortageis just more of a shortage. And I think we're going to continue seeing thisover time for sure. But the next, what is this, 40 years, 30 years, thepopulation is planned on going from 2.376 million people up to what is it?Another million people, 3.3 million people in Vegas.
JackPalermo(18:56):There's no room. No, I'mkidding.
BrendanKing(18:59):They're building like little LA,whatever the ninth island for Hawaii but I think eventually, it will be littleLA.
JackPalermo(19:04):Yeah, for real.
ChekeshaVan Putten(19:05):I always had a dream about that, just the fast train going from LA to Vegas.
JackPalermo(19:09):I know.
BrendanKing(19:09):Where is this train?
JackPalermo(19:10):The train needs to happen.
BrendanKing(19:12):How amazing would that be if wecould do the like, "Hey you guys, you guys want to run to the beachtomorrow? Hop on the train." And you get some work done. Hang out alittle. Go to the club car. Get a drink. Show up in LA. Go to beach. Get on.Come home. That would be amazing.
JackPalermo(19:26):That would be awesome.
BrendanKing(19:26):And people would probablycommute to work.
JackPalermo(19:28):Yeah, why not?
BrendanKing(19:29):Why not?
JackPalermo(19:30):Why not?
ChekeshaVan Putten(19:30):I know that you talked about theHyperloop at one point. I don't know where they are in that process.
JackPalermo(19:33):They are building that train butthe train stopped in Victorville, I read.
BrendanKing(19:37):Yes, it's not clear.
JackPalermo(19:38):Well, Victorville's still toofar from LA.
ChekeshaVan Putten(19:40):Yeah, it needs to go all the wayto Malibu.
BrendanKing(19:43):People coming from LA toVictorville made sense because you just drive to Victorville. Leave your car,hop on the train. But for us, it's like we get on the train. And we show up inVictorville, we're like ...
JackPalermo(19:53):Let's go to the Applebee'sstill.
ChekeshaVan Putten(19:55):But Victorville's still far fromLA.
JackPalermo(19:56):Let's go to the Applebee's.
BrendanKing(19:57):Because we are on the other sideof the mountain so you got to get around and over somehow into. But hopefully,we'll see.
JackPalermo(20:05):It's coming soon.
BrendanKing(20:07):Chekesha is going to build us atrain.
ChekeshaVan Putten(20:07):I'll do it.
BrendanKing(20:07):Entrepreneurs, Chekesha is goingto build us ...
JackPalermo(20:08):It's coming soon.
ChekeshaVan Putten(20:09):On the list.
BrendanKing(20:10):So, why does Nevada have thesecond highest gas prices in the country?
JackPalermo(20:15):It is crazy. It's crazy. So,just a personal experience, Friday, I got Costco card so cheapest gas, 355 onFriday, 425 yesterday. I topped off today at 450.
BrendanKing(20:28):Whoa.
JackPalermo(20:29):So, almost a dollar in sincelast Friday ...
BrendanKing(20:32):That's crazy.
JackPalermo(20:32):... which is crazy.
BrendanKing(20:33):Do you know how much I paid forgases fee?
JackPalermo(20:34):Zero, Tesla owner.
ChekeshaVan Putten(20:36):Oh, the Tesla.
BrendanKing(20:38):And I've got the old Tesla so Ican just go plug for free the charger. I didn't realize how lucky I was untilnow.
JackPalermo(20:44):Lucky you. But if gas pricescontinue to rise, we're going to be doing this with our clients I think. Imean, I'm going to [inaudible 00:20:51] back of my bike pretty soon, another 50cents.
BrendanKing(20:56):That looks like me with amustache in the '70s.
JackPalermo(21:00):You do look like Kip.
BrendanKing(21:01):I wasn't born yet but it doeslook like me.
ChekeshaVan Putten(21:05):That's hilarious.
JackPalermo(21:05):Anyway, that was a picture fromNapoleon Dynamite and I was pulling Kip in the back.
BrendanKing(21:09):Hold on.
JackPalermo(21:11):But anyway ...
BrendanKing(21:12):Strap your kids in.
JackPalermo(21:13):Funny stuff. Hopefully at somepoint, gas prices will go back down or at least stabilize a little bit becauseit's getting out of hand in the six days, a dollar.
BrendanKing(21:19):Yeah. Who knows what ...
ChekeshaVan Putten(21:21):I kind of like seeing you on thebike though.
BrendanKing(21:25):It was pretty good. It waspretty good.
JackPalermo(21:27):Thanks, Maxine. Thank you,Maxine for sending that picture.
BrendanKing(21:32):So, Sisolak, mayor's reveal planto support startups in Nevada. Nevada? Nevada?
JackPalermo(21:39):Nevada.
BrendanKing(21:39):I know, just kidding. I alwayshave to double check myself because my whole life, I always said Nevada and Ialways say Nevada. But yes, small business startup accelerators. The state willpartner with Generator, a venture-funded national network of accelerators thatwill operate the two programs and give successful applicants essentiallyamounts to crash course in business development. And that includes at least 10 startupsper year will receive up to $100,000.
JackPalermo(22:05):That's great.
ChekeshaVan Putten(22:05):That's awesome.
BrendanKing(22:05):Originally, I read it as 10 willreceive $100,000. Every single year, 10 will receive which gives us a littleincubator which is really nice.
JackPalermo(22:17):It's a million dollars a year.My math is good.
BrendanKing(22:19):Good, man.
JackPalermo(22:21):My math is good.
BrendanKing(22:22):I'm so proud of you, Jack.
JackPalermo(22:23):So, yeah. So, that's a very goodfor startups and small businesses.
ChekeshaVan Putten(22:27):It's wonderful.
BrendanKing(22:27):Yeah. And it's a great littlestart. That's the kind of cash influx you need to get a company going for sure. You know as a business owner for sure.
JackPalermo(22:37):Tell us a little bit about yourstartup that you have going on.
ChekeshaVan Putten(22:41):Yeah. Well, my company. I'm nowan early-stage company. I've moved out of that startup phase. But when Istarted my company in 2017, the tech industry here and the startup industry inLas Vegas was growing. And there really were not many places that you could goto get the funding that you need to get a company rolling. So, it's wonderfulto see programs like this popping up.
BrendanKing(23:05):And we had that. That was whenTony Hsieh had all the great little incubators downtown and unfortunately sortof faded. But I think it did at least bring some people to town that arerelated to that industry that now are revitalizing it and keeping it going. Butit did fade a little bit back and that ...
ChekeshaVan Putten(23:23):It did, I know. And he investedso much money in the downtown community to help attract more tech andstartup-oriented people to come to Las Vegas. Hence, Fremont East and all thegreat restaurants and shops that opened down there.
BrendanKing(23:39):It's amazing what they've donedown there.
ChekeshaVan Putten(23:40):We have a couple otherorganizations. StartupNevada is here in Las Vegas. They're also based c andthey've done some great things to help with the startup community. But we are asmaller community in the United States but continue to grow. So, I launched mycompany in 2017. My company is Castango.com. We're an on-demand job marketplacefor actors, models, influencers and talent.
ChekeshaVan Putten(24:05):We actually are a nationwideplatform. So, we have talent across the country and do everything fromcommercials, print campaigns, live events, trade shows and influencercampaigns. And starting with my career obviously in front of the camera, thiswas a natural transition to start casting, go to help talent find jobs onlineno matter where they lived across the country. Whether they were in Los Angelesor in Kentucky, they could log on to the website, search for jobs, apply forjobs and promote themselves as a talent.
BrendanKing(24:38):Yeah, which is great. So, let'ssay I'm a big bank, some national bank brand and I'm looking for talent. WouldI go to the site and put in my information saying, "Hey, I need threeperformers or speakers for like a video maybe, an in-house video or say aregional commercial possibly." I would apply on your site and then youwould connect me with the talent for this particular commercial?
ChekeshaVan Putten(25:05):Exactly.
BrendanKing(25:06):Amazing.
ChekeshaVan Putten(25:06):We're actually casting a projectright now in Nevada. So, actors sign up with Castingo and search our jobs. Butyeah, you would just go sign up, build a profile and put in the specs of whatit is that you're looking for. And you'll likely get a phone call from ourteam. And then, we'll get the ball rolling for you.
BrendanKing(25:26):Cool. And it's like amarketplace, so all the payments are handled internally.
ChekeshaVan Putten(25:30):Everything.
BrendanKing (25:31):So, if I hire these performers, are they getting paid through the system or do I have to pay them?
ChekeshaVan Putten(25:37):No, you pay through the platformor on demand like a lot of other on-demand marketplaces. Search higher, bookand pay talent through the platform. So, it's really streamlined. It's reallyeasy. We wanted to get rid of all the paperwork, all the email attachments.
BrendanKing(25:54):Then they would have the 1099 themselves, instead they're paying Castingo as opposed to having to pay these individualperformers and create a payroll.
ChekeshaVan Putten(26:03):Exactly.
BrendanKing(26:04):Do the 1099. Send it out for theone job they did. Yeah, that's great.
ChekeshaVan Putten(26:09):And it helps the talent becausethey're just paid on demand and much faster than they normally would.
BrendanKing(26:14):And they could either use it asa career platform or use it to bridge in between gigs which is if any of ushave ever worked in entertainment, there's always sometimes where you've got alittle downtime so that's perfect. They can fill some needs in between jobs oruse it to do all their jobs if they really want to.
ChekeshaVan Putten(26:31):Right. And that's why I createdit because even working in the industry full time, having a great agent, getting a lot of jobs, there's always that like waiting for the next gig, waiting for the next job. And I wanted a place that talent could go to findthat opportunity in the meantime. And now, we've got some great big projects. So, you could possibly get a campaign, a national or commercial or printcampaign where you're getting great exposure.
BrendanKing(26:58):Next month, we're doing an eventso if we need to fire-breather and aerial artists, we know where to look.
ChekeshaVan Putten(27:03):We can find that, too. It willbe him.
JackPalermo(27:05):Castango.com, everybody.
ChekeshaVan Putten(27:07):The skills this guy has that youdon't know about.
BrendanKing(27:11):I've seen his act with thebicycle and the guy on the rollerblades.
JackPalermo(27:14):Yeah, that's one of my hugeones. It's big. It's big. I could sign up for that all the time.
BrendanKing(27:19):Amazing. So yeah, Castango.com,check it out, definitely an amazing way to find great talent anywhere in thecountry and even outside of the country. I think I remember you saying you'vedone some gigs outside of the countries, is that right?
ChekeshaVan Putten(27:30):No, we haven't gotteninternational. On the future, on the 2023, 2024 projections, it'sinternational. But right now, we're just ...
BrendanKing(27:38):Logistics, logistics, logistics.
ChekeshaVan Putten(27:39):Exactly.
JackPalermo(27:40):Yes.
ChekeshaVan Putten(27:40):We're just in the US.
BrendanKing(27:41):Yeah, cool. Sorry, I didn't meanto add the international side. But now, who wants to do it internationally?
JackPalermo(27:47):Two years.
BrendanKing(27:47):So, construction is currentlyunderway at Stations Casino over at Durango called Durango Station. It looksreally, really cool. That corner is going to be the busiest corner on theplanet because across the street is also UnCommons. But this is another StationCasino by the great Station Casino Company that did Red Rock Hotel, Red RockResort over at Downtown Summerlin. Durango Station's got kind of that desertcool contemporary vibe.
JackPalermo(28:18):It does. They're moving arounddirt.
BrendanKing(28:20):Yeah, I saw that. I got excitedbecause ...
ChekeshaVan Putten(28:22):And what a great area, thatsouthwest part of the valley.
BrendanKing(28:26):It's crazy. They used to just beempty buildings and dirt, and now we have UnCommons. And UnCommons is beingvery picky about their tenants. I have a client who's the general counsel for amine company and they got rejected to be tenants there because they want namesand people recognized like DraftKings and stuff like that.
ChekeshaVan Putten(28:45):Castango.
JackPalermo(28:45):Castango.
BrendanKing(28:49):Castango, UnCommons. You wantyour office there. It looks amazing. But then, Durango Station's across thestreet and I know both are doing like a modern cool food court concept where wecan all go hang. Somebody wants to go get sushi rolls. Somebody else wants toget a taco. You can all bring your food and sit together which I love.
JackPalermo(29:07):It's going to be me.
ChekeshaVan Putten(29:08):Sushi for me.
BrendanKing(29:08):Yeah. Nice, me too.
JackPalermo(29:10):Tacos.
BrendanKing(29:12):And Pier 215's right there, too. It's all right there. So, it's all super close together. I think it's going tolook amazing. And I hope the renderings are what it looks like. That's alwaysthe scary part.
ChekeshaVan Putten(29:21):Yeah. I actually heard thatStation has owned that land for like 20 years or something. So, yay thatthey're finally building on it.
BrendanKing(29:28):Yeah. They've had the sign thereforever that says like "future casino" and I was like, "Yeah, right. That's never going to happen." But yeah, they've had it forever for17, 18, 19 something years. Yeah. So, hurry up.
JackPalermo(29:38):Speaking of renderings, it'sreally quick. So, last week, we did the renderings of Fontainebleau but theywere just released yesterday. So, we had them ahead of time. Watch the UnnamedShow, everybody. Yes.
BrendanKing(29:49)Yes. So, we had a new blog postthis week regarding seven luxury neighborhoods in Las Vegas. In no particularorder, here are seven of them. So, what is this?
JackPalermo(30:01):Spanish Trails, yes.
BrendanKing(30:03):It's not number one, it's justthe first one.
JackPalermo(30:04):It's just the first one. It'snot number one. It does have beautiful golf course.
BrendanKing(30:09):Beautiful golf course.
JackPalermo(30:09):Beautiful homes in there.
BrendanKing(30:10):I think three nine-hole ...
JackPalermo(30:13):Yeah, 27 holes.
BrendanKing(30:13):Yeah, 27 holes. Some builderhomes. You have custom homes. You have like a sheik from out in the MiddleEast, it was that giant incredible home there.
JackPalermo(30:25):Yes, it does. It's insane.
BrendanKing(30:26):It's insanely huge. But yeah, great, great neighborhoods, Spanish Trails.
ChekeshaVan Putten(30:31):They also have a nice countryclub. We're actually our Junior League luncheon there, we just found out.
JackPalermo(30:35):We just did an event there.
BrendanKing(30:35):We just did our MomentumMastermind.
JackPalermo(30:37):Yeah, it's really nice actually.I was surprised because it's an older one but they've kept it updated and it'sreally nice. We were in the ballroom where Junior League will be.
ChekeshaVan Putten(30:46):Yes, will be.
BrendanKing(30:48):Yours is much fancier.
ChekeshaVan Putten(30:49):With all of our hats.
JackPalermo(30:49):Yeah, yours are going to be muchfancier.
BrendanKing(30:51):Yours are going to be much, muchfancier. Number two is MacDonald Highlands which honestly was a lot of justdirt back in 2010. And that has exploded with contemporary properties. Thereare some of the most expensive homes recently sold in MacDonald Highlands.
ChekeshaVan Putten(31:08):They're some pretty amazinghouse in there.
BrendanKing(31:09):Oh my god.
ChekeshaVan Putten(31:10):I mean, like custom C-level ...
BrendanKing(31:13):Class, gorgeous.
JackPalermo(31:15):The views are amazing.
BrendanKing(31:15):I think the most expensive homessold in Las Vegas just sold in there actually not too long ago. Yeah.Beautiful, beautiful neighborhood.
JackPalermo(31:24):The Ridges, here in SouthSummerlin. Absolutely beautiful, stunning views of everything. They also havesome custom homes in there as well.
BrendanKing(31:31):A lot of Golden Knights inthere.
JackPalermo(31:33):Yeah, it's like Golden Knightsout. Gold knights out. There's a bunch of them in there. And Davante Adams fromthe Packers just bought a house there for $12 million. So, he's only on oneyear with the Packers, so probably next year Raider.
BrendanKing(31:48):It's foreshadowing.
JackPalermo(31:50):Yeah, I might as well.
BrendanKing(31:52):Ascaya, another Uber-expensiveneighborhood with custom properties. This was a piece of land that was carvedout of the side of the mountain. It sat empty for a while, got sold about 10years ago and then they went to town. A lot of California architects have builtproperties in here. A lot of local builders have built properties in here. It'sbeautiful. The clubhouse is insanely beautiful with an amazing view of thestrip.
BrendanKing(32:20):And I forgot to mention,MacDonald Highlands as well. All these neighborhoods have been insane stripviews.
JackPalermo(32:24):Insane strip views.
BrendanKing(32:25):Pretty much, you're just sittingon a cliff just nestled over the valley. Amazing, amazing views.
ChekeshaVan Putten(32:30):Are these all-custom homes?
BrendanKing(32:31):Ascaya is yeah all-custom.
ChekeshaVan Putten(32:33):Nice.
BrendanKing(32:34):Yeah. Number five is ...
JackPalermo(32:36):Southern Highlands.
BrendanKing(32:37):I love that golf course.
JackPalermo(32:38):I love that golf course.Southern Highlands is gorgeous. I mean, absolutely gorgeous. It's kind ofnestled between Henderson and the Las Vegas.
BrendanKing(32:45):Kind of Scottish links-styleclubhouse.
JackPalermo(32:47):Right. Yeah, it's super cool,beautiful homes.
BrendanKing(32:50):And a mix of builder and custom. We almost closed on a $10-million home in there and it ended up, the dealdidn't work out. But yeah, there's everything from $10-$12 million custom homesdown to Christopher Holmes has a section of builder properties in there andadditional builders. But great neighborhood, guard-gated and gated. And thegolf course is beautiful.
ChekeshaVan Putten(33:15):I love how they have the treelined in rows.
BrendanKing(33:18):Yeah, which is nice. Number fouror I should say number six is The Summit. The Summit is ...
JackPalermo(33:25):Is insane is the place. TheSummit is insane.
BrendanKing(33:28):So, this is the place. If you'venever heard of Summit, the company that built this, Discovery Land Companybuilds the most exclusive ...
JackPalermo(33:38):They have them in the Bahamas,Jamaica ...
BrendanKing(33:40):Hawaii.
JackPalermo(33:41):Everywhere.
BrendanKing(33:42):I think they have mountains, beaches, Mexico.
JackPalermo(33:47):Insane.
BrendanKing(33:47):The guys who owned Casamigos, one of the guys who was a partner with Casamigos, they actually came up withthe idea at their development in Mexico. They were all hanging out together atone of their communities down in Mexico. So, the way this community works isthey all vote where they build next and they voted a few years back to build inLas Vegas. It is by far the most exclusive community in my opinion in LasVegas. And the clubhouse is not even done yet but the renderings areincredible.
JackPalermo(34:22):No, it's crazy. And the coolthing about ... He wanted it to be such a chill golf course. He doesn't wantyou to wear a golf shirt. He's like, "Come out in a T-shirt. Come out inshorts. Just have a good time." They actually have every four holes inwhere you would pick up the water box on the tee box. There's actually bottlesof Casamigos tequilas with shot glasses.
BrendanKing(34:42):And they have comfort stations,so seven out of the ... So, every four holes, you have comfort stations whereyou can just grab whatever you want, drinks, foods, everything.
JackPalermo(34:52):Sandwiches, fullbars.
JackPalermo(34:55):That's my kind of golf course.
ChekeshaVan Putten(34:56):Draft beers. And then, thehalfway house actually has people in there making sushi, rolling sushi andmaking tacos.
BrendanKing(35:03):Yeah, it's crazy.
ChekeshaVan Putten(35:04):Sushi and tacos. What more doyou need?
BrendanKing(35:07):And this is one of the mostexclusive communities for security. They've got ...
JackPalermo(35:10):Infrared.
BrendanKing(35:11):... military-grade infraredcameras that hone in on anything that has a heat signature. We went for a tourand saw them show us like if a mouse even goes by, this thing goes"sssh" and zooms in.
JackPalermo(35:22):And security will arrive there.
BrendanKing(35:23):And they know where it is. So,they had amazing photos of like hawks and coyotes because the camera takes itand heat-seeks with them and follows them around.
JackPalermo(35:33):Crazy.
BrendanKing(35:33):And every guy who does securitythere is a former either from the military or from police like former policeofficers and things like that, not just security guys. No offense but they'retrained individuals. And then number seven is Tournament Hills.
JackPalermo(35:50):Tournament Hills is also verygorgeous.
BrendanKing(35:53):Yeah. Sheldon Adelson.
JackPalermo(35:55):It's right off of TPC Summerlin.
BrendanKing(35:57):Yup. So, TPC in general, you'vegot Enclave, Tournament Hills, Eagle Rock, Mountain Trails. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful area. One of the best golf courses in town, Summit mayrival it now. But still, those are our PGA courses.
JackPalermo(36:14):For sure.
BrendanKing(36:14):Last year, we had two PGAevents, one took place at Summit and one took place at TPC. I was at both, yeah.
JackPalermo(36:21):I was a marshal.
BrendanKing(36:22):Doing a little paddle.
JackPalermo(36:24):I was a marshal at the Summit.
BrendanKing(36:25):You're very good.
JackPalermo(36:26):Yeah, thank you. Thank you verymuch.
BrendanKing(36:26):I wasn't there when you werethere though.
JackPalermo(36:28):Thank you.
BrendanKing(36:28):I came the next day.
JackPalermo(36:28):Thanks to you.
ChekeshaVan Putten(36:29):Good volunteer work.
BrendanKing(36:30):You did very good. So, this is afun one, actually. So, Bonnie Springs Ranch was a little like farm-type thingthat was out in the desert for kids and had like a little restaurant in there.I had never actually been, believe it or not, but I know a lot of people whogrew up ...
ChekeshaVan Putten(36:47):Yeah, they have like little farmanimals.
BrendanKing(36:49):Yeah. And I think it was ...
JackPalermo(36:51):Remember the train andeverything?
ChekeshaVan Putten(36:51):Yeah.
BrendanKing(36:52):It was seeing its time. And whatthey're doing there is incredible. So, the home lots will start, there areestates that will start at $5 million. Vegas is a different place today than itwas three years ago, in all honesty. So, they will have home sites that startat $5 million. And here's the cool thing. There are going to be 16ultra-exclusive estates ranging in size from 2 to 4 acres. Where in Vegas doyou find 2 to 4 acres for $5 million?
JackPalermo(37:21):I think of 5,000 square feet.
BrendanKing(37:24):Two to 4 acres and it's actuallygoing to have a luxury resort and outdoor amphitheater, a farm to table gourmetrestaurant and an event barn.
ChekeshaVan Putten(37:34):I love that.
JackPalermo(37:35):That's crazy.
BrendanKing(37:35):That's thus far. So, you havethe 16 homes that will be in this neighborhood, but then you have these placesthat other people can go. You can go have a farm to table meal at therestaurant. And then you can host an event at the barn which is amazing.
JackPalermo(37:48):That's crazy.
BrendanKing(37:49):So, I have a wedding out thereor I have a Junior League event or a BKG event at the barn. So, I willdefinitely be on that list for sure. Look forward to the Junior League and theBKG having an event there.
ChekeshaVan Putten(38:03):And Castango.
BrendanKing(38:04):And Castango. There we go. We'retripling up. But honestly, if you've never been out to this area, Red RockCanyon, Spring Mountain Ranch, just so beautiful. I'm going to get on the list.I think I'm going to buy a house there.
JackPalermo(38:19):Do it.
BrendanKing(38:22):So, Michael Jackson ...
ChekeshaVan Putten(38:23):Talk with Amy first, though.
BrendanKing(38:24):Yeah.
JackPalermo(38:25):Check with Amy first.
BrendanKing(38:26):Let me check the budget. MichaelJackson's rental mansion in Las Vegas is up for sale again. This thing'schanged hands a few times in the past few years.
JackPalermo(38:34):Current owners bought it for$3.1 in 2010.
BrendanKing(38:38):Okay. So 2010, that's when thatall happened.
JackPalermo(38:42):Yeah.
BrendanKing(38:43):And the doctor lived in RedRock. I remember all the cops.
JackPalermo(38:47):Oh yeah.
BrendanKing(38:48):Trucks and everything else. Lookat this beautiful though. The outdoor bar, the pool, cool little courtyardthere.
JackPalermo(38:55):Section. 10. It's here inBuffalo. Yeah.
BrendanKing(38:57):Great area. Historic area. Butyeah, if you want to own the home that Michael Jackson used to rent, go for it.It's available. And what it is available for now?
JackPalermo(39:09):I don't know.
BrendanKing(39:09):$9.5 million.
JackPalermo(39:12):Wow, all right.
BrendanKing(39:13):Yeah.
JackPalermo(39:13):So, we're going to make somemoney on that.
BrendanKing(39:15):Make some coin on that for sure.
JackPalermo(39:16):Hopefully, Bubbles the monkey is...
BrendanKing(39:17):So, there was an article reviewjournal stating that Las Vegas home prices are not sustainable. So, it doesbring up some things like this ... Prices just can't climb this fast forever.
JackPalermo(39:28):Continue to go, no, they can't.
BrendanKing(39:30):There's always an end toanything that is too good to be true.
JackPalermo(39:34):True.
BrendanKing(39:35):We went up 26.5% last year whichis insane for any investment. But right now, the issue is inventory is so lowand demand is high. So, though I don't think it's sustainable forever, it'sgoing to be sustainable for now just based on normal economic theories ofsupply and demand. People want what they can't have so they're willing to paymore for it right now.
JackPalermo(40:00):Totally.
BrendanKing(40:00):We just put a tiny little condoon. Did you see that one?
JackPalermo(40:04):Twenty-seven offers?
BrendanKing(40:05):Twenty-seven offers. And we'reway above list, all cash. It's going to close in 10 days.
JackPalermo(40:12):Crazy.
BrendanKing(40:13):It's nuts. So, though they statethat it's not sustainable which I agree with over the period of time or a longperiod of time.
JackPalermo(40:21):For right now, it's not goinganywhere.
BrendanKing(40:22):For right now, it's not goinganywhere for sure.
